·Dark Spots & Melasma

Hey all — backstory: I had a dry, chapped patch on my lower lip and started applying my Musely cream on it preemptively so it wouldn’t darken — basically hit compromised skin with strong actives. Ended up with an actual dark spot there, plus some darkness at my mouth corner. Likely self-inflicted PIH.
Now, after weeks of nightly use + daily SPF: the skin AROUND the spot is lightening, but the spot itself won’t budge — lately it even looks slightly darker. Halo forming, target stubborn.
Questions:
1. Is the halo normal — surrounding skin just responds faster?
2. Did anyone’s spot look dark?
