Why You Need Marine-based Skincare In Your Life ImmediatelyIn case you haven’t heard, marine-based skincare is all the rage right now! Although that might sound strange, there have actually been tons of studies that show how marine ingredients such as seaweed, seawater, etc possess anti-imflamatory and anti-aging properties! They’re also packed full of minerals that restore, replenish, and hydrate the skin.
Just ask celebrities like Jessica Alba, Serena Williams, and Kate Hudson who all SWEAR by this new trend. So if you want to be in on this skincare secret, keep reading to learn how each marine ingredient can benefit your skin.
Seawater: Did you know that sea salt is packed with skin-friendly minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium? These help to absorb excess toxins and bacteria on top of the skin and work great to treat infections. Sea water also contains an almost identical chemical make-up as found in our own blood plasma. So by adding more sea water to your routine, you can replenish some of the minerals that you lose on a daily basis. I personally love using the Frangipani Bath Salts and just letting my whole body soak in all the sea salty goodness.
Algae/Seaweed: Although you might freak out when this stuff brushes up against your foot when you go swimming, seaweed is actually one of the best natural ingredients for your skin! First of all, it’s one of the fastest growing organisms on the planet and it’s packed full of natural skin hydrators. It contains Vitamin E, B, and C which all help to fight pigmentation, brighten skin tone, and protect from free radicals that cause premature aging. Similar to sea water, it has a high mineral content but it also contains proteins and amino acids, leaving skin plump and soft. Right now I am absolutely obsessed with the Seaweed & Algae Face Mask from Athar’a Pure.
Marine Collagen: Also known as fish collagen, this stuff is loaded with health benefits. Studies have proven that this is one of the most effective forms of collagen because it hydrates the skin and contains 8 out of the 9 essential amino acids. It even has a skin favorite, glycine which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Although you can apply this type of ingredient topically, it’s a million times more effective when you ingest it. This way your body can better soak up all the health benefits which shows through in your hair, skin, and nails. One of my favorite ways to incorporate marine collagen is with the Hello Beautiful Collagen & Multivitamin Powder from Musely. It comes in wild berry and un-sweetened which are perfect for mixing with your drinks in the morning!
