  • Did you know that vodka is good for more than just building a buzz? In addition to being an essential part of delightful weekend debauchery, vodka is also a great stain fighter, residue remover and mold killer. Forget about using the top shelf stuff, the less expensive, shiver inducing brands of vodka work just as well. Here are nine household uses for vodka;

  • 1. Erase Stains
Vodka has a solvent effect, so it does a great job removing stains, including hard-to-fight grass stains and even red wine stains. Blot the stain with a clean cloth soaked in vodka. It will evaporate eventually.

  • 2. Disinfect Surfaces
    If you don't have any hydrogen peroxide handy, you can substitute vodka as a homemade disinfect. Fill a spray bottle with the alcohol and spritz any problem areas (like your cutting board or kitchen countertops). Let the vodka sit for a few minutes before wiping the surface clean.

  • 3. Clean Mirrors
    Just like rubbing alcohol, vodka can be used to remove hair spray from mirrors. Simply soak a soft cloth in the clear liquid and wipe your mirror for a streak-free shine.

  • 4. Keep Pests off Houseplants
To keep ants and other common insects off of your houseplants, fill a plastic bottle with a 50/50 mixture of water and vodka. With a soft cloth, wipe your plants’ leaves with the mixture to keep any unwanted creatures at bay.

  • 5. Kill Weeds
The bottom-shelf bottle of vodka tucked away in your liquor cabinet may not be good for Cosmos, but it makes for a great weed killer. Combine vodka, water and dish soap.

  • 6. Remove Adhesive
    There’s nothing quite as frustrating as trying to remove the sticky glue that gets left behind from stickers and labels. If you have unwanted adhesive leftover on your appliances, simply saturate the adhesive with vodka. The sticky residue should come right off!

  • 7. Shine Chrome
If your chrome has developed a dirty film, use vodka to shine it!  Moisten a soft, clean cloth with vodka, and then apply it to your fixtures. It will evaporate on its own - no need to use water. Tip: This works great for porcelain and crystal, too.

  • 8. Clean Caulk
    When was the last time you checked out the caulk in your bathroom? If you see brown or black stains on the caulk or the grout around your shower, you may have mold and mildew. Vodka can work in a pinch to get rid of mold and mildew (tea tree oil is most effective). Because it’s high-proof alcohol, it’s great at removing bathroom fungus. Add vodka to a spray bottle and liberally spray the affected area. Wait 15 minutes, and then wipe the area clean.

  • 9. Make Boozy Popsicles
If you like fruit and you like vodka, then you’ll love making boozy Popsicles! First, gather the ingredients and mix them together in a large pitcher. Then, pour the Popsicle syrup into your molds (ice cube trays work well). Make sure to freeze them for at least two hours! Tip: If you’re making "boozicles" with soda, let it go flat before preparing the recipe.
