Vegetarian Myths Debunked: Fear Not Prospective Vegetarians!
Health & Fitness
1. NOT ENOUGH PROTEIN
This is a common myth that some vegetarians believe. It isn't that hard to get protein. For a 2000 calorie diet, one should get about 65 grams of protein. For perspective greek yogurt can have over ten grams in just one small cup. For me, i was eating about 1500 calories and got too much protein.
Yogurt (especially Greek)
Chick peas (this includes hummus)
Beans and legumes
Edamame (soy beans)
Mushrooms (especially portobella)
Keifer (liquid yogurt with tons of protein)
There is even some protein in veggies and especially in the grain quinoa.
2. YOU NEED TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS
If you eat a well balanced diet there is often no need for supplements. People are often concerned with having to take iron supplements which can make you constipated. I never took these supplements and ate didn't eat iron-enriched foods (and a rather bad diet), and when I had my blood drawn My iron levels were in normal range.
3. IT IS HARD TO RESIST MEAT
Though meat smelled good when i first became a vegetarian, I was never tempted to eat. If you set your mind to staying veggie and even think about where that meat came from it is easy to not eat it. The only time I even liked the smell was month 1. After that you aren't tempted at all.
4. BEING A VEGETARIAN DOESN'T EVEN AFFECT OUR PLANET
First off, though animals will still be slaughtered for meat, with enough vegetarians lives are being saved. Other sources also claim that being a vegetarian helps save water that was used to clean after the animals and produce meat. It also helps save fuel from animals being transported.
I hope these help. I've been a vegetarian for three years now as a teen so if u have any concerns or questions feel free to comment!
