Tried And True Recipe To Lighten Your Hair (personal Experience)
I have been doing this method to save money on hair products and save the health of my hair. I have seen many different recipes and tried alot of them, but this is the best I've tried so far :) I noticed a big difference in my dark hair, it really brought out different blonde tones in my hair.
Some things to consider :
-peroxide is sometimes added in, I have not tried this as it messes with the idea of natural lightening and the honey has a bit of peroxide in it anyways.
-conditioner added in will mess with the PH and interfere with the lightening process (from what I understand)
-I use raw honey only, I found it in the natural food section at my local grocer.
-I have heard of cinnamon used but I want to avoid reddish tones and brassiness. To be safe I only use honey and water
-I always cover it with saran wrap
-make sure to wash out the honey with shampoo!
1. HONEY AND DISTILLED WATER:
a. Mix 4 parts water to 1 part honey (ie. 1.5 oz. honey mixed with 6 ozs. of distilled water). Use a minimum of 1.5 oz of honey.
b. Use a honey that is higher in hydrogen peroxide.
c. Mix the honey lightening recipe at room temperature until thoroughly mixed and allow it to sit for 1 hour at room temperature.
d. Apply mixture to clean wet hair. Be sure there is no product left in your hair such as leave in conditioners, gels, etc.
e. Pin up your hair and cover the hair with plastic wrap, shower cap or swim cap for 1 hour. The hair must be kept completely wet with the treatment both before it is covered and while the treatment is on the hair. Honey and conditioner.
*I have put the honey directly on my hair without letting it ferment and it didnt have the same effect. Please allow time for this extra step especially the first time or you may not get the results you want!
*this works on my dark brown, color treated hair and virgin hair.
