While popcorn is nothing new, grocery stores, happy hours, and specialty stores are bursting with new twists on this old standby. Sweet and savory flavors, like jalapeno white cheddar, s’mores, and maple bacon are now available on everyone’s favorite popped snack.
Middle Eastern Food
Middle Eastern food seems to be everywhere! Food trucks, restaurants, and carts are popping up all over the country serving dishes with the shawarma, falafel, and hummus we know about, along with more exotic foods, like tabouli, labani, and fattoush salad.
Spicy food is getting hotter by the day! Foods in restaurants and eateries of all styles are turning up the heat with different kinds of hot peppers from around the world. Notably, establishments are mentioning the type of peppers used in the sauce or dish.
Protein added to our diets has become a major focus this year. Probably in part as a reaction to the Paleo Diet, cured meats like jerky and meat bars, as well as plant-based protein like nuts, lentils, and chick peas have spiked in popularity.
Restaurants, food trucks, and other eateries across the country are putting their own spins on your childhood favorites. Artisan grilled cheese, upscale PB&J, and macaroni and cheese made with gourmet ingredients can be found in the most unlikely places, but we’re not complaining.
