The TRUTH About Hair Growth
Most girls want long healthy hair and are willing to try anything to get it. The truth is, your maximum hair length is determined mostly by genetics. Your hair grows in stages, the anagen, catagen, and telogen phases.
Anagen: this is the growth phase, generally it is predetermined by genes how long your hair will remain in this stage. The average is anywhere from 2-6 years.
Catagen: this is the transitional phase, it lasts roughly 2 weeks during which time the hair is cut from it's blood supply and stops growing. The follicle shrinks and prepares itself for the telogen phase.
Telogen: this is the dormant phase, the hair has now finished growing and remains attached for another 1-4 months. It is then shed and a new strand emerges, beginning the cycle again.
So am I stuck with this length?
Not necessarily. Although there have been few studies supporting this theory, it is possible that taking MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) supplements may lengthen the amount of time your hair spends in the anagen phase. Make sure you do the research before deciding to add this supplement to your routine.
There are many things you can do to ensure you are reaching your genetic maximum length. Keep your hair and body healthy by eating right, drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly. Also take care of your locks. Reduce heat styling, do deep conditioning masks and treat your hair like it's a newborn baby.
I tried for years to grow out my hair using all the the trending methods, so I decided to learn about the science of hair growth, to really understand why I was getting no results. My hair is now at it's maximum length, about bust length, but it's the healthiest it's ever been.
