Staying Sane When Disabled

  • When stuck with a long term illness or disability, you can start to kind of fade away. These are some tips that have helped me get through rough times so I hope they do the same for you

  • Surround yourself by good friends who love you for who you are. Talk with them often. They will hp take your mind off the emotional and physical pain

  • Your family loves you, having family time will help dramatically. At least once a week, watch a movie, go to the park, anything as long as your with the people who love you

  • Keep a journal to write down all of your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes, those feelings can stay bottled up until they explode. It can make you want to scream. Write frequent entries to help get it off your chest.

  • Do things that you enjoy. Anything from shopping, playing games, a certain hobby anything. It's hard to stay depressed when having fun.

  • Keep to your faith and religion. Keep faithful in yourself. Believe that God will help get you through this. Believing is key.

  • Make sure you have a goodnights sleep. This helps keeps you alert and in a better mood. No ones happy when they're tired. You'll feel more energized. They say on average you need at least 8 hours of sleep a night.

  • This one is my favorite.... Laugh. Watch comedies or hang out with your friends. Laughter releases certain chemicals that helps your brain think that you are content.

  • I know it's hard, but hang in there. People don't understand what it's like. Watching people live normal happy lives while you're stuck with this demon. I have fought depression and my family doesn't even know it. This is how I pulled myself out of that dark place. I knew I needed help, but I had to do it on my own. I hope these helped. :)
