Simple Guide To Accutane: Getting Prescribed And Product Recommendations.
Health & Fitness
The photo on the left was me a year ago: with cystic acne that was painful and left scars behind. The photo on the right is me without make up on, only two months into my accutane treatment. The difference is undeniable.
It took me years to get on accutane. Accutane is a serious drug, and should only be used if you have tried everything else.
Personally, I have tried antibiotics, hormone replacements, topical creams, and every over the counter product that said something along the lines of "for acne" - no success.
Accutane is very serious. You should only consider taking it if your acne leaves scars.
Personally, I also had scarring body acne so I was an excellent candidate. I had to see a dermatologist to get the prescription, and I must get blood tests every month to check for pregnancy, and organ failure
Accutane changes how your body naturally produces and reacts to oils. Not a lot is known about it, and was only discovered as a light form of chemotherapy for skin cancer patients.
It causes severe birth defects - and you MUST use two methods of birth control if you're female. One if you're male.
To combat the side effects I experienced here are my reccomendations:
If you are eligible for accutane, and you begin taking it. DO NOT leave your house without lip chap! Doesn't really matter what kind, but I really liked this one. It is an ointment so it really got into the cracks and without pushing too hard on my lips.
I also really loved this EOS lip thing in mint because it felt really cooling.
THIS. Buy like 12. They're a convenient size, and AMAZING. My routine right now is to layer my steroid cream on my lips, then put this on top. It's amazing. The coco butter flavour is amazing. And for the first time in months, my lips actually don't look chapped.
I am allergic to scented products so it's really hard for me to buy creams or lotions. I struggled for a while with flakey skin, with eczema patches when I first started and this worked miracles! It's a water based cream similar to Euceryan (diaper cream, oil based). Comes in ointment and lotion.
This nasal mist really helped me when I first started and when my doses increased - my nose was so dry it would crack on the inside and bleed. It was very painful, but this soothed it, and stayed because it was a gel.
When I first started my eyes got very dry too - I loved this product because it was also a gel and would stay for a very long time. I found brightly lit areas very hard to be in for a while, until I used this.
Put this on at night. On anything cracked or flakey. Including, but not limited to your lips. It saved me. Accutane essential.
I love using the aveeno body wash for washing and shaving, because it isn't too hard on my skin. I found using normal shaving cream too drying and caused more flakes and itching, but I love how moisturizing the "skin relief" by aveeno is.
This was a game changer for face washing on accutane. I found normal soap too drying and I could not use anything with salicylic acid, not anything with exfoliates. However my skin was so flakey I had to use something! This is cooling and makes my face feel sooo nice. This is an accutane essential.
If you are put on accutane: MOSTURIZE EVERYDAY.
I repeat: EVERY DAY.
I was never the type to moisturize, because I never needed to. Trust me when I say that you will need to when you use this drug
The best time, that I can recommend, would be right after you shower. I sometimes let the cream soak
If you do get onto accutane, best of luck. It is a life changing drug.
I am only going off of my experiences with this drug, and do not represent the company producing the drug.
