Short Guide To Stretched Ears
Stretched ears are very common on tumblr and in the alternative music scene. However, they are getting more and more popular. Pop culture icons such as Adam Lambert and Travis McCoy have stretched ears.*
This was originally brought about by several tribes all over the world many, many generations ago. Although many tribes/cultures had this, most people credit the Ubangi Tribe in Africa with this trend.
The Ubangi people would stretch their ears to show patience, strength, and wisdom. Those who had nice, big ears displayed the most patience. And those who had big ears, but also scarred, or chapped lobes were considered foolish for not taking the proper amount of time stretching requires.
That's why I think stretching ears should be admired in this society. Everyone's always rushing to do things. In that rush, we tend to ruin things. We also hold our appearance at a high standard. Why not show our patience through our appearance? Two birds, one stone.
Firstly, have your ear(s) pierced. When your ears are pierced they are almost always an 18 g*. If your ears are recently pierced, wait a month and a half before stretching. The next size is a 16 g, but most people skip it because it's a small jump.
*gauge. NOTE: gauge is the SIZE, not the name!
The sizes go like this: 18g 16g 14g 12g 10g 8g 6g 4g 2g 0g 00g
For the best results, use all of these. It's important to wait at least a mine between stretching when you get to about 12 g. Also, 0 g is called "The Point of No Return." This is because they won't shrink nicely after this size.
Stretching is fun and easy as long as you wait the proper amount of time and don't jump too big. Even tho it's an ancient tradition, it's new in America. You might not get a job you want or you might get weird looks for them. But, Fuck those people. They're ignorant.
