Re-vamp Without Spending A Fortune
Home & Garden
Re-vamping a room without hiring a decorator.
There are good and easy ways to change the look of your home without spending A LOT of money on a decorator or all new furniture. It could mean spending no money, a little money, or if you're up to splurging a little without breaking the bank.
Here are a couple things you can do:
-- Buy new cover slips for your sofa and chairs. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can make your own if you have the time and skills. You can YouTube ways to do this, or check Pinterest.
-- Paint. Changing the color of your room can make a big difference and change the whole mood. As you probably know, lighter colors make a room look bigger. But if you want to add color, you can always choose a dark or bright color for trimmings if you have them. You can also paint just one wall with a different color. If you have patience, you can place frog tape to make stripes. Or alternatively, find something like a stencil or doily to add some character. This can be fun if you do it with a friend.
-- New bedding. Investing in new bedding can change the feel of the room. With whites or cream colors, it will look more airy. For a more dramatic look, bold colors or patterns are good. It all depends on what you like best. You can also simply get a duvet cover for your comforter or a blanket if you don't want to buy all new sheets.
-- Curtains/drapes or blinds. If you're a minimalist and don't want to feel like your room is overwhelmed, you can buy new blinds. There are so many different types that you might even have a hard time deciding on just one. Curtains or drapes will frame the windows in different ways. Layering a light curtain with a heavier one on top will make it look more formal or dramatic depending on the fabric and color. Choosing a sheer curtain will give it an airy feel. You can either hang one, or have one on each side of the window.
For your bathroom, here are a couple things you can buy. You don't need to buy them all, these are just suggestions.
-- shower curtain
-- "shelves" for your body washes and shampoo, etc. You can buy this at bed bath and beyond as well as other places and they are a pretty standard size. You place it over the shower head. Don't know what it's called.
-- also, I don't know what this is called either, but there are racks you can buy to put over your toilet and they serve as shelves. You won't hit your head on them, they're specially designed for this.
.... Little things can make a big difference too. If you want your living room to look a little different, here are a couple suggestions:
Interesting lamp, vase, bowl, or tray
Of course buying all of these will definitely change your living room, but all you really need to do is find one thing that you love and stands out yet works with the rest of the room.
You can also modify furniture you already have by painting an old table you've had for years.
Lastly, REARRANGING furniture!! Doesn't sound like it will make a dramatic difference, and it won't give it a whole new look, but it will definitely be a new look for you.
Make sure to measure all the furniture and write down the measurements (length, width, height), to make sure they will fit in their new spots.
This is obviously free, and you can ask a friend to help. You can make a day of it and take food and beverage breaks in between.
.... Empty drawers before moving anything to make it lighter. You might find clothing or other things you don't need anymore. Two birds with one move.
