☀️🌊MELT-PROOF your MAKEUP routine this summer!

posted in Beauty > Makeup
  • 💥First off, use less makeup.
There will be less to melt! Start with self-tanner; the subtle glow helps you "eliminate so many products later," says Jeanine Lobell, Natalie Portman's makeup artist. Our pick: James Read BB Gradual Tan Face ($25, net-a-porter.com). Just wait five minutes before applying makeup.

  • 💥Stick with creams or with powders.
"Getting ready in the morning, use like with like: cream blush over cream foundation, or powder over powder," advises makeup artist Fiona Stiles, who does Gabrielle Union. We love Laura Geller Beauty Baked Impressions Bronzer ($31, ulta.com) dusted over powder foundation. But for touch-ups during the day, go with creams or gels—"they're easier to reapply without starting over," Stiles says. "Once makeup sets with powder, it looks chunky when you layer on more."

  • 💥Master lasting cheek color.
Richer tones last longer, so "go for a darker shade and blend until it's sheer," says Nick Barose, Lupita Nyong'o's makeup man. Or try this lasting trick from Katey Denno, makeup guru to Olivia Wilde: After dabbing on a color like this gorgeous Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Soufflé ($27, sephora.com), "press blotting paper on top to lift oils out, leaving pigment behind.

  • 💥Make shadow stay on
Shadows that have some sparkle, like Mary Kay At Play Baked Eye Trip in Electric Spring ($10, marykay.com) won't look "old" as fast as matte shadows, which tend to crease thanks to the natural oils on your eyelids, explains Lobell. If you want to streamline, just do liner. "Anything is going to slide in that area, and it's easier to clean up messy liner than your creases," adds Denno.

  • 💥Switch to gel or liquid liner
Most makeup pencils are made of wax, which melt in the heat. Opt for gel or liquid instead; makeup artists all agree both last longer. Revlon ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner in Electric Blue ($8, ulta.com) is a winner.

    💥Don't forget about your brows.
The simplest (and arguably chicest) look for summer: strong brows with bright lips. Shape and fill in sparse spots with tinted gel like MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set ($17, nordstrom.com), left. Forgo brow pencils in summer—those wax formulas melt just like eye pencils.

  • 💥Know the trick of making mascara last.
No, it's not just using waterproof—those formulas, used alone, can dry your eyelashes. Instead, use your regular mascara, then "seal it with two coats of waterproof on top," says Denno. "When you remove it, the waterproof formula is stuck to the regular mascara and not your eyelashes," making it easier to remove. Try: Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara ($20, sephora.com).

  • 💥Skip goopy lip gloss.
"You're already shiny enough!" says Stiles. A lip stain like YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in No. 4 ($40, yslbeautyus.com), left, has staying power and doesn't add greasiness. "It stains the skin and will show through whatever you put on top," says makeup artist Jeannia Robinette. Add balm for moisture.
