Is Fasting To Lose Weight Ok? That Answer...
Health & Fitness
Fasting as a weight lose system is dangerous. Not only can it cause anorexia, nutrient deficiencies, but if you already have kidney or liver problems, it can cause more harm starting a chain reaction.
Even worse for dieters is that fasting for weight loss "distracts people from the real message of how to lose weight: lower fat intake, eat five fruits and vegetables a day, drink water and stop drinking other liquids, walk 30 minutes a day, and get more sleep," says Fernstrom, an associate
professor of psychiatry, epidemiology, and surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
But I do it to detox my body.
There is no scientific evidence that it detoxes the body. We are created to do many things just like our body. Our body knows what to get rid of out of our system. "The liver is a natural detox center; the lungs, the colon, the kidneys, [the lymph glands] and the skin get rid of toxins. (Fernstorm)
But fasting to lose weight when you probably are not on a healthy path already just is an invite for ER visits.
But wait. My family and I do it for religious purposes.
Yes. That is ok. You are still eating, and maintaining a healthy diet. When fasting you don't eat during certain parts of the day or can't eat certain foods. Ramadan- can't eat from sun up to sundown. Catholics- cant eat meat. See where I'm getting at?
So. Long explanation short. Fasting to lose weight, I.e. not eating for days, or eating a piece of chicken for the whole day is dangerously unhealthy. You body needs certain food to survive and to function properly. But fasting to get healthy, cutting junk food and soda. It's good. Learning new....
Habits. I hope this helps. And hope you guys know loosing weight that fast is not ok. It's not worth it. Just exercise, eat right and you will be ok. Wedding in a week? Doesn't matter. You will pass out from lack of nutrition. Being healthy is sexier then looking to drop a dress size.
