  • If no one in your home is allergic to fabric softener, (which a lot of people are), you can try this fabulous recipe. Get a large spray bottle and add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and ¼ cup of fabric softener. Fill up the rest of the bottle with hot, clean, filtered water or hot distilled water. Shake the bottle until all of the ingredients are well blended. (Shake gently before each use).

  • If anyone in your family has a fabric softener allergy, of if you have pets, try this recipe instead. Mix 2 tablespoons of vodka and a few drops of essential oil in a spray bottle. Fill up your spray bottle the rest of the way with distilled water. Shake it, then spray it! The vodka will help to keep this mixture fresh for a couple of weeks, but don’t use it past three weeks!

  • If you have cats, you want to avoid using either of these first two recipes. Cats can develop liver failure from too much exposure to essential oils. They are okay to use on occasion, but don’t spray anything they regularly play with or sleep on. Instead, try this homemade Febreze recipe! Get your spray bottle, and drop in ¼ cup of baking soda. Add a little bit of warm distilled or filtered water and shake, then add 3 teaspoons of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

  • Then fill the rest with distilled or filtered water. Shake the spray bottle really well, making sure all of the baking soda has dissolved. Now it’s ready!

These homemade Febreze brews cost between fifty cents and a dollar for all the ingredients. These recipes are good for your home, and great for your wallet!
