How To Help A Sore Tongue 👅
Health & Fitness
1⃣Suck on an ice cube or ice pop. Suck on an ice cube or ice pop as soon as the painful, burning sensation occurs. The cold will help to numb any feelings of pain and make your tongue feel more comfortable.
2⃣salt & water. Take a glass of warm water, add a tablespoon of salt & stir to dissolve. Take a mouthful of the salt solution & swish it around your mouth for 30 seconds, concentrating on the sore area of the tongue. Spit out the water when you're done, do not swallow. Do this 3 times a day.
3⃣Apply a baking soda paste to your tongue. Place two teaspoons of baking soda in a small bowl and add just enough water to form a paste. Use a cotton swab to apply this paste to your tongue. Allow the baking soda to sit on your tongue for five minutes before rinsing off.
4⃣Rinse your mouth with hydrogen peroxide. Take a capful of hydrogen peroxide and swish it around your mouth for 30 seconds, before spitting out. Alternatively, use a cotton swab to dab the hydrogen peroxide directly onto the tongue.
5⃣Avoid eating foods that could aggravate a sore tongue. When suffering from a sore tongue, it's a good idea to avoid certain foods that make the pain worse, such as spicy or acidic foods. Although this won't speed up in the healing process in itself, it will make you more comfortable.
6⃣Use milk of magnesia to soothe the tongue. Use a cotton swab to dab a little milk of magnesia directly onto the sore tongue. Allow it to sink into the tongue - do not rinse off. To increase the soothing, numbing benefits, try mixing the milk of magnesia with some Benadryl before applying.
7⃣Suck on a numbing throat lozenge. Throat lozenges contain mild anesthetics which numb the tongue and prevent you from feeling any pain. They can be purchased over the counter and should be taken according to the instructions on the packaging, every two to three hours.
8⃣Take medications to alleviate any pain. If the pain in your tongue is overwhelming or is preventing you from sleeping at night, consider taking an oral pain medication. You can buy analgesic medications OTC or get a prescription for stronger medications.
9⃣Apply capsaicin cream to soothe the tongue. Capsaicin cream is a topical treatment that helps to relieve pain by blocking pain signals between different parts of the body. It can be applied to the tongue three or four times a day.
🔟Use an anesthetic mouthwash. Use an anesthetic mouthwash such as benzydamine to relieve pain and swelling on the tongue. Pour 15 mls of benzydamine into the cap, then swish it around your mouth for 15 to 20 seconds before spitting out.
1⃣1⃣Take alpha lipoic acid capsules. Take 200 mg of alpha lipoic acid three times a day in order to relieve the pain of a sore tongue over time. Alpha lipoic acid is available in capsule form from your local drugstore.
