How To Get Perfect Brows! Full Tutorial & NEW TIPS!
First, you should know which eyebrow shape is right for your face.
This is a useful guide for when you're plucking your eyebrows.
Plucking tutorial with tips:
Try not to overpluck!
I always start in the middle, plucking any stray hairs from in between my brows.
Refer back to the guide picture. Once you've plucked to line 1, STOP PLUCKING! Even if your brows still look a mess, they can be neatened up after - don't go past this line or it's a lot harder to fix.
Then I work on underneath the brow. The area from the middle of the brow to the end of the 'tail' will probably need neatening up the most.
Aim for as neat line as you can get, but remember no one's brows are THAT perfect before makeup.
Only pluck hairs from above if they are REALLY out of place. I think it's a myth that hair plucked from above the brow won't grow back, but I've certainly noticed the growth is a lot slower, and you don't want half an eyebrow till it grows back!
Try to keep both brows the same shape and length. Pluck the middle, then the stray hairs. Then when it comes to shaping, only pluck a small amount on one brow, then pluck the same amount in the same place on the other brow. Keep doing this, rather than fully shaping one brow then doing the other as this usually results in uneven brows.
More plucking tips:
If you struggle to pluck your brows neatly, try lightly filling in your brow to give you a guide of the shape you want before plucking.
Remember fuller brows make you look younger!
Be extra careful when plucking above the brow - if you accidentally pluck into the arch, it brings the brow down rather than lifting it up, which will make you look older.
For painless plucking, do it straight after you've been in the shower. Or place a hot, wet face cloth over your brows for a couple of minutes before you pluck.
If you tend to overpluck, try going over the hairs you want to pluck first with a white powder or pencil. Then strictly stick to these areas when plucking!
If you can't get your brows to match perfectly, it's because our faces aren't exactly symmetrical. If you look around hardly anyone has perfectly matched brows so don't worry about it!
Another way to pluck painlessly is to apply baby teething gel to the skin around your brows before you pluck.
This is an alternative way of shaping your brows. Take extra care with this one though!
If the hairs of your brows are particularly thick or unruly, you could trim them. You should only do this if you really have to, and remember to trim sparingly! It's easy to go to far with this. Trim a bit, then check, repeat.
Brush hairs upwards until the point of the arch and trim, then brush downwards for the tail.
The next step to perfect brows is to use makeup to fill them in and improve the look.
Picking the right product is important in getting perfect brows. Here are the 4 basic types. Sometimes a combination of these products works best.
Try to stick to a colour close to your natural colour. And remember, with blonde hair, slightly darker than your hair looks best, and a shade or two lighter (eg. dark brown) looks more natural with black hair.
How much you fill your brows in is completely up to you. Some people prefer to just fill in sparse areas, while others completely fill in and thicken/lengthen the brow, changing it's shape. While the first option tends to look more natural, the second gives a more perfected, dramatic look.
For a more natural look, simply use an angled brush and some powder to lightly fill in sparser areas. Try to avoid covering the very start of the brow if you want a really natural look.
Here's a couple of tutorials for a slightly more dramatic brow..
Remember to highlight the brow bone! You can just highlight below the brow, or for a more dramatic look, highlight above it too!
If you just can't get the shape right, you could always try an eyebrow stencil. Just place it over your brow in the right place and pencil/powder inside the stencil. You can buy these or just make your own by cutting the right shape out of a piece of paper or thin plastic sheet.
If you struggle with angled brushes for your brows, here's as easy guide.
Try this tip if you use powder for a bolder look!
