👀Got Naturally Curly Hair? This Is A Must Read!!👀
Do you want your hair to be less frizzy and make your curls look gorgeous and defined? I have a solution! Read on!
Ever heard of cowashing? It's a new fad that I've been seeing everywhere! As a stylist, I must say, I was skeptical. I felt like I needed shampoo to get the clean I needed. Cowashing is typically done with just conditioner, they say that there are just enough cleaning agents in regular hair conditioner that will actually gently clean your curls without drying them out. (Which is what causes frizz!) I recently found a write up on what I thought would be a great warm up to cowashing. I've been doing it for just over 2 weeks and as you can see in the picture, it's working wonders!
I'm doing cowashing but working my way to just plain conditioner. My system right now is washing in cool water, (to help control frizz, hot water only makes frizz worse, and also maintain my purple color) then using conditioner, work it from the ends to the roots and slowly "comb" through using your fingers. Then, apply your shampoo directly over the conditioner. I don't use much, but start it at the roots and run my fingers through to my ends. Then all you have to do is rinse (again, I do cool water, as cool as I can stand!) and dry! For best results, use an old tshirt to get the excess water
out. A regular towel roughs up the cuticle and creates even more frizzy issues. The combing part is crucial because after you're finished washing, you don't want to brush/comb it, it will break up your curls and cause them to frizz! If you don't want to use your fingers to comb, use a wide tooth comb to get the tangles out. After I get the excess water out of my hair, I put in my products. I like to use an oil and then scrunch in my favorite mousse! Then, I let it air dry. What happens is what you see in the picture! Occasionally as it's air drying, I'll flip my head and scrunch but,
it's as simple as that! Also, I highly recommend adding coconut oil to your hair routine! That is also something that helps your curls stay nice and hydrated, especially in the dry winter months! I apply about once a week, as needed, I comb it through and put my hair in a bun. You can go run errands, do some housework, whatever to pass some time. I leave mine in for an hour or two, I've heard some keep it in overnight! Then rinse and go about your routine. I also will take a very small amount and scrunch into my dry hair for some frizz control. (Only as needed though!)
Make sure you aren't washing too often, that can also give you frizz issues. The oils in your hair is something that your curls definitely need! I wash mine maybe twice a week. Doing these few simple things has made a huge difference in my curls! It's winter here and dry and now since I've started this, my ends aren't dry, my hair looks nice for more than one day, I don't deal with as much frizz and my curls look so nice and defined! If you deal with frizz or crazy, unruly curls, give this a try!
One warning I can give is, it takes a couple weeks for your hair to get used to being cleansed by the conditioner so, your hair may look a little oily during this adjustment period but not to worry! There are products you can use to combat that while your hair gets used to the new process! Get yourself your favorite dry shampoo or just use cornstarch as a natural alternative! If you have brown hair, mix a little cocoa in with it so your roots don't look ashy, problem solved. 😊 As I said, I've been doing it for just over 2 weeks and my last two washes had the results in the picture! 👍👍👍
So, I'm now over a month since I started cowashing, (and a new cut and color later! 😊) and in this picture, I had just done a coconut oil mask for a few hours, and this is the results! My hair looks and feels so great and my curls look beautiful for days, which is huge for me! 😃
Normally I can only wear my curls for a day, then after I sleep on it, I wake up a frizzball and either have to start all over and spray my head until I look like a drowned poodle or just admit defeat and put it in a messy bun. 😋 Since I started cowashing, I can go at least 3 days without worry of frizz! I also started using an 100% organic argan oil (put in my moisturizers too, totally amazing!) in my routine and using that coconut oil as a deep conditioner as needed has made a huge difference in the frizz department, those two things along with the cowashing has helped tremendously! 😊👍
