  • Start with regular paper, scissors, and maybe some markers to make a colored flower. You could also use colored paper instead.

  • Fold the paper the make a square and then cut off the extra strip. You'll need both pieces so don't throw it out.

  • If you want to color them, the small strip will be the stem and the square will be the flower.

  • Fold diagonally to create a triangle. Then unfold so it is back to a square.

  • When you unfold it you will have an X made from the creases where you folded it

  • Use your other hand to press the top down flat towards your fingers so that the paper folds inwards like this in an hour glass shape

  • Pick up the first layer at the corner and fold it in a triangle towards the top center part of the triangle. Do it again with the other corner so it ends up looking like this.

  • Flip it over to the other side you didn't fold yet

  • Pick up the corner of the top layer and fold it completely flat against the other side. Flip it over and repeat. Basically you're pulling it apart so that the part that was on the inside of the fold is now on the outside of the fold. Like if you opened a greeting card and laid it down flat.

  • You will notice opening at the bottom where you just connected the two flaps. Put one finger in each side and use them to gently pull it apart slightly to expand the fullness of the flower.

  • At the top, there will now be two layers at each point. Carefully pull the first layer halfway back away from the middle to form a petal. Repeat on all four corners.
