Driving To Sea: Songs For The Ocean-Bound
Billy Joel, Everybody Loves You Now
I grew up in Oyster Bay, NY, where Billy Joel was a legend of sorts. It was crazy to have this huge iconic songwriter who wrote about places minutes from my house. This song was off Billy's first LP, 'Cold Spring Harbor, named after a town 15 minutes from my neighborhood.
War on Drugs, Eyes to the Wind
War on Drugs' latest record Lost in a Dream is easily my favorite record of 2014. It sounds like some missing pages were taken straight from Bob Dylan or Jackson Browne's songbook and were set to a lush soundscape of ambient guitars and pitchy 1970's synthesizers. "Eyes to the Wind" perfectly sums up everything that is wonderfully bizarre and magical about a record like this coming out in the year 2014.
Bob Seger, Night Moves
I remember one weekend in Fire Island with a few of my best friends. I think we had only a few scratched-up CDs in the summer house we were staying in. But we had this one record on repeat all weekend. Any time it comes on I get super nostalgic about summer nights out near the Atlantic Ocean.
Here We Go Magic, How Do I Know
I absolutely love this song. I've listened to it over a thousand times, and I'm not any less in love with it. It's a simple yet beautiful song with lyrics we can all relate to.
Givers, Saw You First
Our producer Andrew Maury went on tour with Givers doing live sound for them. While I was recording our EP Parallel Play and working on our live show, Andrew would always play their Jazzfest 2012 live tape he recorded as a source of inspiration. Givers is an amazing band, and they play every song with such precision, but also with ease and confidence.
