Do's And Don'ts Of Babysitting 👶
Family & Kids
First, identify the age group of the kids you will be watching. This will give you a great advantage in how to best take care of them!
Get phone numbers of the parents, pediatrician, and emergency. If anything goes wrong or you have questions you'll need these!
Babies can be tricky. They can become upset in a second, and you may not know what is wrong. Be sure you are comfortable handling babies as they will likely need to be held. Always make sure they're fed, changed, and comfortable.
Make sure you know how to change a diaper, you will probably need to know how!
Be sure to ask the parents about feeding the kids. Know when and what to feed them, if at all.
Older kids can be an equal challenge. They're more active, can hurt themselves, and can also get angry or upset. Make sure you're always nice to them, but let them know when they did something wrong. Always keep a close eye on kids when they're playing.
Bring different games, movies, treats, and other things to keep the kids occupied and happy!
Be mindful of the kid's feelings! Don't upset them, and don't get angry with them for no reason. Keep in mind they may be nervous about a stranger watching them.
Don't get distracted! Always keep all your focus on the kids! Turning away for a second can be the difference of a child getting hurt!
Ask the parents about bedtime. What time they need to be put to bed? What kind of routines do they follow? Do they need any special care?
Be sure to give parents a full report. Tell them the good, funny, and don't sugar coat the bad. They need to know what happened!
Be sure to thank the parents for any compensation given, and give them your number if you wish to watch their kids again!
