Creamy Tomato Sauce. You Will Never Use One From A Jar Again!

  • 2Tb Olive oil
1 onion, diced
2 minced garlic cloves
1(14.5 oz) can Italian style diced tomatoes, undrained
1Tb Italian seasoning
1tsp sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
2/3c heavy cream (use as much as desired, you may substitute with milk but it won't be as thick)
2Tb unsalted butter
    2Tb Olive oil

  • I usually double this recipe. I don't double the size of the onion or cream. With the cream I add 2Tb-2/3C depending on what I feel like. This recipe does not have to be exact! It is VERY forgiving and can fit almost any taste.

    Sauté onion in oil over medium-high heat until soft. Add garlic and cook another minute(4-5in total)
    Add tomatoes,Italian seasoning, sugar, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes or until liquid is gone. (I like to bring it to a boil then take it down to low heat and simmer for about a half hour so all the flavors are incorporated but sometimes you just don't

    Remove from heat and add cream and butter.
    Return to heat an simmer on medium-low heat for about 5-10 minutes until sauce has thickened.

  • We love this with smoked Italian sausage and bow tie pasta! Obviously you can do it with spaghetti, chicken, fish, whatever you want :)
