Color Block Your Dresser
Home & Garden
If your room is looking a little drab, or you’re just tired of the same old style you’ve had for years, a great and cheap way to spice things up is to color block your dresser! With just a few different paint colors and some creative license, you can turn any dresser into a marvel of modern design.
1 First, pick the wooden dresser you want to paint. This is a great opportunity to repurpose an old, unused dresser.
Sand your dresser. Sanding will ensure that your dresser has a smooth finish and won’t chip. Start out with 80 or 100-grit sandpaper, and then switch to 150-grit or higher once most of the paint or stain has been removed from the piece.
3 If your dresser is made of something similar to Formica, simply sand it until it’s no longer shiny.
4 Now, remove all the dust from your dresser with a damp cloth. Residual dust will keep the paint and primer from sticking.
Next, prime your dresser. Do several very thin coats of primer for best results. If you’re going to paint with dark colors, opt for a gray primer. If you’re going to paint with light colors, opt for white.
6 Now, it’s time to paint! Choose four or five bright paint colors and your solid color.
7 Paint your dresser drawer sides with your bold hues, and then your dresser a solid color.
8 Before you return your dresser drawers, be sure they’re completely dry.
