  • First off! Soups are an excellent way to use up leftovers, almost anything can go into soup. :)
    First off! Soups are an excellent way to use up leftovers, almost anything can go into soup. :)
  • Broth is by far the best ingredient to start with. Any kind will work, its best to combine like ingredients, (like chicken with chicken broth) but vegetable broth will work with any soup.

    Next pick your starch or filler, this will give thickness to your soup. Potatoes are probably my favorite but yams, turnip, squash, sweet potato and other starchy foods work great too! Make sure to simmer for up to an hour after you have added all your ingredients. This activates the starch and naturally thickens your soup while combining all the flavors.

  • Next is the fun part! Adding whatever leftovers you may have; vegetables, meat, gravy even potato salad makes for a nice creamy soup.

    Then season to your preferred taste.
    salt and pepper are staples for almost any soup
    but of course there are MANY other seasonings.

    It all boils down to what you like and works for your diet but these are the steps I take to make basically any soup. Enjoy!
