Valentine's Day doesn't have to be all about chocolate and other decadent treats. Show the kids in your life how much you love them with simple, healthy snacks and heartfelt messages. They'll remember the creativity a lot longer than a bag of candy! Here are 10 easy ideas to inspire you.
  • 1. I Love You Berry Much
If your favorite kid is a berry lover, express your affection with a sweet snack. Serve fresh strawberries in a heart-shaped bowl, arrange raspberries in the shape of a heart on a white plate or outline a heart with blueberries on top of cold cereal or warm oatmeal.

  • 2. Heart-Warming Lunch
Nothing says "I love you" on a cold day more than a cup of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Make it even more special for your Valentine by using a cookie cutter to make heart-shaped sandwiches.

  • 3. Lunch Box Surprise
A small sweet treat is perfect to tuck into your Valentine's lunch box. You can use any flavor of gelatin they like (even sugar-free). Just mix 2 1/2 cups of bowling water with two 8-ounce packages of gelatin and stir well. Pour into a rectangular glass pan and refrigerate until firm. Just before making the heart shapes with a cookie cutter, dip the bottom of the pan into warm water to loosen the gelatin.

  • 4. Watermelon Pops
Turn ordinary watermelon into a Valentine's Day treat but cutting slices into heart shapes with your trusty cookie cutter. Then spear each heart on a lollipop stick for fun eating.

  • 5. Easy Pizza Hearts
Use whole-wheat English muffins to make simple heart-shaped pizzas for a quick, kid-friendly Valentine's Day dinner (before your own romantic night out). Top with strips of sliced deli turkey and a sprinkle of mozzarella.

  • 6. Balloon Breakfast
Surprise your young Valentine by filling the kitchen with red, white or pink balloons for a festive breakfast before school.

  • 7. Message in a Pocket
If you help your kids pick out their clothes the night before school, take a moment to slip a note into the pocket of their jeans letting them know how much love them.

  • 8. I Heart You
Make simple origami hearts to hide in a backpack or lunch box. You can even write special messages on the hearts.

  • 9. Sidewalk Sentiment
While your little ones are away from home, take a few minutes to create a chalk message on the driveway or sidewalk to great them when they get back.

  • 10. After-School Treat
Make snack time special on Valentine's Day by serving open-faced peanut butter sandwiches with jelly hearts and slices of fresh strawberry.
